A little back ground here, Mexico has been delivering great medical care for a long time now. You’d have to be living under a rock not to have seen all the national news stories about all of those Gringos going across the border daily just to get their drug prescriptions filled or getting their dental work or other medical treatments done at 50-70% cheaper cost for the same level of care, wells that not exactly true they are getting much better level of personalized service than has existed in the US for decades unless your very rich with a private doctor. If you live in California or Arizona they run daily charter bus tours over the border for seniors to get their meds or visit a doctor. It’s a huge business.
Basically with the Patriot Plan you get to choose 2 types of policies that best suits your needs. You can opt to be able to get full medical care in both the USA and Mexico or just here in Mexico. Of course the cost will vary depending upon that choice and your personal medical history of course.
For some folks having the ability to fly north to have that major operation or cancer treatment at a hospital their familiar with or some specialized medical center like Sloan Kettering, Mt. Sinai or Stanford, UCLA or other facility in the US is very important. You see this Patriot Plan policy gives you a lot of flexibility to make the choice that fits your comfort level best. Now let me clear up some possible mis-conceptions you might have about medical care in Mexico.
First a major difference here is that there are no lawyers suing doctors it just doesn’t happen. Mexico is not a sue happy country like the US, imagine how much that adds to your cost up north for insurance cost – plenty.
When you see a doctor here in Mexico you actually see the doctor not his nurse assistant who performs most of the doctors functions, nope you see the doctor and he takes his time to get to know you and why your seeking treatment. You rarely wait more than a few minutes to see any doctor here, I know I lived here for some time and have either been to or taken friends to the doctors all over Mexico.
Another positive difference is that if you need some lab work done it’s usually on site or almost next door as their medical labs everywhere it seems but they deliver your results to you or the doctor within the hour or faster not the 1-2 weeks I’d become accustomed to back in Oregon.
We live near Guadalajara and one of Mexico’s leading Medical University teaching hospitals. Their are many hospitals there plus we have one small one right here in Ajijic. The hospitals there have many world-class doctors and specialist who can perform any high tech procedure that you might ever need. But any medical procedure here will cost a fraction of the same thing in the USA. Tens of thousands of North Americans have been coming to Mexico for years now for dental work, knee or hip replacements or cosmetic surgery etc. due to the high level of personalized care but mainly the vastly lower cost typically 40-60% less.
Prescriptions drugs here are another big savings over the US and most drugs don’t require a doctors visit or if they do many pharmacy’s have in house doctors who quickly ask you a couple of questions and then your good to go. I get this rash on my hands every couple of years that requires a drug called Prednisone a steroid to kill it off. Now back in Oregon this means a $115 doctors visit 2 hours of wasted time then another $45-60 to fill the script’s 14 day’s of pills. A couple of months ago it came back again so I walked up to a local drugstore and told them what I wanted two minutes later she’s back with the same exact drug and it cost $2.50 not $160.00 or more.

We created Expat Insurance Plans to sort out all of the choices and we have vetted them all, I used to be a insurance broker back in Oregon so I know the right questions to ask. Frankly I created this out of personal need and realized many could benefit from my research and knowledge.
