I’m here………now I need to find a place to live……quickly!
After a few days staying with some friends in Tulum I decided that I wanted to stay long-term and get a place in Playa Del Carmen. I feel in love with the modern infrastructure (including awesome grocery stores!), the beaches and the incredible variety of restaurants (tons of them!), activities and stores. In addition, Playa is very easy to navigate on foot and the “cabbies” are incredibly cheap.
So I was sitting at a Starbucks on the famous 5th Street checking my email when I noticed a real estate office across the street. After seeing the agent walk into her office I decided at that moment to go speak with her about rentals in the area. Of course, at the time I didn’t know that she did rentals but I soon discovered that she represented several buildings in the area. The agent was very friendly, spoke great english and was very sociable, organized and proactive. We left the office 15 minutes after we met to go view several options in the immediate area. We visited 4 to 5 places within the span of two days and I made a decision on my place the afternoon of the second day.
The two-bedroom condo I chose was very progessive on the inside with marble countertops and floors, flat screen tv, modern kitchen appliances and very nice bathrooms with the “rain” style shower heads that comes out of the ceiling directly above you. In addition, the condo has wi-fi, air conditioning, ceiling fans and a social area with 3 small pools and day-beds on the roof. I met three very pretty and friendly Norwegian girls the first time I went to visit the pool! Playa is much the international city and you never know where the next person you meet is going to be from.
The owner/landlord of the complex was very friendly and brought the contract and “check list” to the condo. She then proceeded to go over everything in the condo and checked everything off once she pointed it out in the condo (kitchen utensils, remote controls, chairs, etc.). I thought this was very professional and glad she took the time to go over everything. She then took me downstairs to show me the washer and dryers, which was a bonus cause now I didn’t have to worry about taking my laundry to many of the “Lavanderias” in the area, which are cheap but it’s nice to have free laundry machines in your complex.
Oh yeah, one more thing, there is an on-site technician and the security is great!
Finding a new home quickly in Playa was a quick, pleasant experience. There’s a wide variety of rental options in the incredibly beautiful Mayan Riviera……..otherwise known as Gringos Paradise!
